What a great project Streatham SW Radio was! Supporting the wonderful annual Streatham Festival in 2007.
The podcasts here have stopped working and we’re fixing that as we write this. Bear with us over the next few weeks. Our new host for the podcasts is http://www.getmedia.org.uk/ – the Community Media Association’s podcast repository for Community Radio stations.
We think that these podcasts have enduring value and are still worth a listen today.
Even though Streatham SW Radio concluded in 2007, it’s not our style to leave it incomplete and broken. Bear with us over the next few weeks while we fix the podcasts.

Until next time…

Streatham SW Radio concluded this weekend but we hope to make The Streatham Arts Festival 2008 our 3rd time round of telling the world about it through our internet broadcasts. This year has definitely built on the success of our first pioneering broadcasts last year. This year we became a truely interactive multimedia organisation: the live internet broadcasts were supported by listen/download anytime interview recordings (or podcasts for short), a TV channel on youtube, a photography portal on Flickr and a live chat room.
Streatham SW Radio provided a diverse range of Streatham Arts Festival coverage engaging with our community, produced by the widest range of cultural groups, comparing well to the other great media organisations that have an interest in Streatham. That said, being a non-profit, open, community organisation we closely co-operated with other organisations, including local media, for mutual benefit.
The positive effect of the Streatham Arts Festival goes beyond its week long event each year and, similarly, the ambition of Streatham SW Radio is to support the growth of the festival and also other community causes in Streatham. In other words we’d like to broadcast more frequently, including between each annual event!
Thank you to everyone who has participated in the broadcasts and supported us.
Do feel free to comment on our output and tell us about what you think we should be doing in the future.

July 17, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Sunday Saint Leonard’s church in Streatham is filled with hymns and prayers but on Saturday night its gothic vault was filled with very different music from all over the world…
Headlining was Senegalese kora player Kadialy Kouyate who performs with Paraguayan harpist Kiki Petersen.
He explains how this extraordinary duo was formed after a chance meeting on the street…

Well, we did promise!
On Saturday 14 July, Rob Davis spoke to some people at the fete at St Leonard’s Church then went onto the Fresh Bean Cafe on Streatham High Road for a tasty snack and caught up with the lady behind the Puppetry Theatre. Then, after some sessions producing shows at our studios, he was back at St Leonard’s Church for the World Sounds performances, interviewing some of the performers and organisers.

We continue…
July 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Streatham SW Radio is on air for another week until and including Saturday 21 July. We will be broadcasting in the evenings this week and on Saturday from the afternoon.
The Streatham Arts Festival grows each year and has a lasting effect beyond the weeks events. We thought we would reflect this by broadcasting for an extra week up to and including Saturday 21 July, giving you the opportunity to hear interviews you may have missed first time round or enjoy all over again. Also this gives the opportunity for those wishing to present on the station who haven’t already done so.
Notable mention goes to those hard working souls involved in the festival that may have a little time now to listen in.
Over the course of this week, many more interviews will be posted here as podcasts for listening at anytime and these will be available long after we have finished broadcasting.
We also have video footage of the World Music event at St Leonards Church and of us at work on a live broadcast in the studio. This will be available once we have split this into clips that youtube can manage. It imposes a 100Mb limit on each clip and some of our recordings exceed this. We need to dig our video editor out to do the necessary. Meanwhile have a look at what we have on there already – youtube.com/streathamswradio – some footage of the street party and of local broadcaster Rakesh interviewing Imran Khan in India.
Check out our flickr.com/photos/streathamswradio photo site for a few more photos, more will be added shortly.
Thanks to everyone at the Arts Festival for a great range of events this year and for being enthusiastic interviewees.
